I need medication.

I have a problem.

I hate to see my Caroline and Emma get shots.

Wendi's comment yesterday reminded me of this. She said she cries MORE than her babies when they have to get shots.

Well... my reaction is a bit different.

Let's take yesterday for instance.

I walk in.

Talk to a few girls that I know that work there.

I walk straight back. (YAY for knowing girls that work at the office right?)

I undress Em.

Take her down the hall to get weighed.

This is when it begins.

I get really hot.

I get all sweaty.

I am sure the nurse notices.

I am sure she is thinking what is wrong with this crazy lady?!

I am also sure she is thinking... boy, her kid sure is dressed cute. (This is beside the point. I just thought I would throw it out there.)

Then I see the needle.

My job is to hold down Emma or Caroline. Whoever it may be... I have to hold them down. Yesterday was Emma. She is MUCH easier than Caroline.

So, being that my job is to hold Em down, I feel like I should talk to her while it is all happening and comfort her.

My reaction???

Is it tears?

Nope.

I laugh.

I mean really laugh.

It is uncontrollable.

I know it is going to happen every time my kids get a shot and they scream.

How can I stop it?

I don't enjoy seeing them hurt so why the H do I laugh?

Let me explain a little.

I don't laugh like... roll on the floor laugh.

It is just a little... giggle.

But the nurse totally knows that I'm laughing.

And sweating.

Once it is over and she leaves, I'm sure she is thinking the crazy nut mom in there with the cute dressed baby is super weird. She laughs when her kids get shots.

Do they make medication for this?

I will totally take it.

Just tell me what it is.

there are lots of times when i laugh to keep from crying. i think its just a defense mechanism. shots suck :( when my boys get shots i lay my whole body across them while they're laying down and block their view of whats about to happen. then i just give them kisses till its done. since they cant see anything they only cry for like a minute.

You crack me up! Whenever I need a good laugh to brighten my day I just come here and read all about your day. I will check to see if there is any medicine out there that may help you!

For Izzy, her first shots, I totally cried (and, yes, I get all sweaty, too).

With Nat, I made Matt stay in the room with her while I refilled her Rx...that was a smart mommy moment!

Laughing, though, I've never done that.

How about laughing when you tell someone something really bad? That's what I do. For example, say I tell Kyle that the old man down the street died...for some reason and I can't figure it out, his reaction makes me laugh. Clearly I do not think it's funny, but I can't help it. I do this with all terrible things.

Maybe you laughing will help your kids think it's not that big of a deal..it may be a good thing.

I hate it when Charlotte has to have something done at the doctors! I outwardly nervous, like the sweating thing too. But, I don't THINK I have ever laughed. You crack me up. But, I wouldn't feel bad about giggling. Like some other women here suggested, it may be an unconscious
attempt to lighten the mood. But, since Caroline is on to your tricks, it doesn't work that way anymore!

I laugh at the wrong times as well.. for example... when I was talking to ryan on the phone and he was saying how sick he was and throwing up and what not.. I laughed... not because i thought it was funny... it is just a nervous laugh.. I think more people nervouse laugh then you think. I think I laugh so not to cry...

I am soooo happy you said this! I always laughed too and I felt like such a jerk even though I knew it was nervous laughter. Thank goodness you're out there!
