I hate going to the grocery store.
Nevermind. Let me rephrase that. I hate going to the grocery store with two children in tow.
Anyway, it was taco night and I had nothing to make tacos. So, off to the store we went.
Caroline was a nutjob the whole time of course. "I want this... I want that..."
Emma was sitting in the cart. She was in the actual cart part where you put your groceries.
She had gotten in the habit of sitting there. She loved to hold all of my groceries as I put them in the cart.
I was about to make my last stop... taco seasoning.
"One more second girls and we will go home and make dinner."
I turned to get the taco seasoning and I heard a thud. I later described it as a SPLAT.
I was too scared to turn around and look. I knew Emma had fallen out of the cart. I just knew her head had busted open and there was going to be blood everywhere.
I looked. Sure enough, she was on her back on the hard floor screaming. No blood though. Just screams! I threw myself on top of her. I check her pupils. I checked her head. I checked her ears. I checked everything. During all of this, I forgot to breathe. I gasped for air and began to cry. I somehow found my way to my phone.
Why did I need my phone you ask? To call my husband.
I didn't know what to do. Do you keep shopping? Do you leave the cart and run to the car? Do you put everything back and then leave?
I just needed someone to level me out. Guess what? In case of an emergency, don't call my husband. He is absolutely no help. You will end up yelling ugly words at him. You will also end up hanging up on him.
After cussing him out, I turned to get my cart and check out. There were about 7 people standing at the opposite end of the aisle I was on. They just stood there and stared.
I don't know if they were scared of me or what. My mom possibly hit the nail on the head when she said that I probably did not look approachable.
Any way, I couldn't let Emma go. I held her the whole time.
I cried the whole way home.
I cried when I got home.
It scared me to death.
She is fine... thank goodness.
She got candy and a balloon and that made it all better. Luckily there was no bruising, no goose egg, no sign of damage at all.
Word to the wise though... don't let your toddler sit in the cart part of the grocery cart. Strap them in or make them walk.
I learned that the hard way.
